Les's Missing Historic Films!!
By Mark Johnston on 5/31/2007 10:00 PM
A couple years ago, Les lent out his 8mm film movies of Historic Van Ilse Hang Gliding. They were to be copied to Digital format, used for for a production, and returned...Some how they were lost in the process :-( With the 30th Salt Spring Island Fly-in fast approaching, the films are needed back ASAP. Does anyone have ANY ideas what happened to them?? Post replies here if you can, perhaps it will jog others memories. Thanks for the help.:-))

Mnt Benson (Nanaimo)
By Mark Johnston on 5/27/2007 9:51 AM
Local Novice Pilot Gerry took Don and I for hike Saturday. Not much has changed since it was flown years ago (HGs), but the road is for sure drivable to the top, and Gerry say he can get the KEYS!!! :-) Launch is NE and apx 3400ft ASL, two possible sites, neither is that great, one needs "impovement". The first gate has a bush-wacked by pass, and Gerry's buddy owns the south peak area (cercomm communications) and can borrow the key for the upper gate. rugged 4WD for the upper part, but 2WD everything up to the last 45 min hike, unless you have Gerrys upper gate key and a 4WD.

Mnt Prevost to Youbou
By Mark Johnston on 4/28/2007 10:00 PM
If I'd thought it was going to be that fun, I'd have flown earlier! Launched at 13:10 just before it went east....whew!!! Almost shot myself down, but luckily young Robert (the new sky god with 8 flights!!!) showed me the lift :-)) Way to go Robert!! Worked the light lift back and snagged a good climb near the power station. Once at Hill 60 it was easy, hard part was getting there for sure. Thanks for the radio help and retrieve folks; Norma Claudio Garth Bruce and Grant.

I took this shot when i drove by on friday...looks like we could have an easy NORTH FACING LAUNCH......Is this still Cowichan Regional District, or our freinds at Timber West? By the way this shot was taken just north of the Chemanius turn off from the Island Highway.

Rusty was busy, but Norma and I got in a really nice tandem today on Hornby! So now thats 4 guys and 1 girl to fly Rusty's home site :-) Big Wave Dave seems to be accurate 3 for 3, for me now anyway.....Lots of eagles flying, perfect winds, and Rusty's newly groomed launch is perfect too!! Thanks Rusty. Now we just have to get you launching from it!! :-))))
